Five cards bring a defense into play in Wallguards of the East Empire. According to Garphill Games’ announcement, a Battlefield containing five or more cards triggers an assessment of the player’s strength. Winning that defense grants a Defector. Losing it brings an Ally. The publisher plans to launch the game on Kickstarter in November 2026.

One Battlefield reaches the threshold

Garphill describes four Battlefields above each player’s board. Players use cards to take actions, and most actions add one or more cards to those Battlefields. The five-card threshold applies to an individual Battlefield. Cards spread across all four do not form a pooled trigger under the announced description.

Reaching the threshold also leaves the result undecided. Card count triggers the defense; the strength assessment determines its outcome. The announcement does not explain the strength calculation, ties or how simultaneous triggers would work.

Both defense outcomes therefore bring a recruit. That detail alone cannot tell us whether the rewards are equally valuable or whether losing deliberately could help. Those judgments need fuller rules and play evidence.

Defense results and game victory

The overall objective is to finish with the most Victory Points. Garphill lists training Warriors, gaining Siege and Technicians, improving the Barracks and defending the walls as scoring sources. Either the Defector or Ally draw pile running out ends the game. The announcement supplies no final-round procedure.

Backseat Gamer’s report repeats these announced mechanics. It provides no independent playtesting evidence for this coverage.

Garphill lists one to four players, 60–90 minutes and age 14+, with design by Shem Phillips and S J Macdonald and art by Mihajlo Dimitrievski. These are publisher specifications. The age label does not establish content suitability, and this article offers no firsthand assessment.

November’s planned Kickstarter opening is a crowdfunding milestone. The retained announcement establishes neither a delivery date nor retail availability or price.

A Christian approach to the anticipation can stay practical: exercise patience while details develop, protect household spending priorities and practice gracious competition at the table. Allies and Defectors are rules terms here; assigning them a spiritual message would go beyond the announcement.
