Pokémon TCG Pocket's Ruler of the Skies adds Mega Rayquaza and deck-sharing codes on July 29
Pokémon TCG Pocket is getting its next expansion on July 29, and the most useful addition may be the one that never appears in a booster pack. Ruler of the Skies brings Mega Rayquaza ex and a fresh group of Mega Evolution cards, but it also adds 2D pattern codes that let players share complete deck lists.
The Pokémon Company International says the expansion launches Wednesday, July 29, at 6 p.m. PDT. That timing falls on July 30 in some regions, which explains the later date appearing in specialist coverage. The official announcement also confirms changes to the card dex, booster-pack guarantees, missions, and the summer event schedule.
Deck sharing could lower the barrier to play
Deck-sharing codes give each saved deck a scannable pattern. According to Wargamer's explanation, a player retrieves the code in the app, while another player scans it through the deck builder to recreate the list on a second device.
That is a small workflow change with a real audience benefit. A parent, older sibling, or experienced friend can build a functional list and pass it along without asking a newer player to search for every card. It also makes tournament lists, community experiments, and beginner decks easier to try. The receiving player will still need the required cards, so the feature cannot erase collection limits. It does remove a tedious setup step.
The official announcement says cards that appear in several booster packs will also register across every corresponding section of the card dex. That change applies to cards players already own. It should make collection tracking less confusing, especially for younger players who may assume an empty dex slot always means they lack the card.
Mega Rayquaza leads a busy card reveal
Mega Rayquaza ex is the expansion's headline card. PokéBeach's card catalog also identifies Mega Metagross ex, Mega Gallade ex, Genesect, Psyduck, Absol, Skyla, Wally, Rainbow Cave, Swanna ex, and Dragonair among the early reveals.
The official trailer shows plenty of spectacle, though the strategic picture remains unsettled before the full set reaches players. Wargamer argues that Mega Gallade ex looks especially strong because it can deal 150 damage after its player uses a Supporter during the same turn. Wally appears built to support that plan. Rainbow Cave may also help decks that need more than one Energy type, which could matter for Mega Rayquaza ex.
Those are useful early reads, not settled metagame facts. Card strength depends on draw consistency, Energy access, counters, and the rest of the set. Players trying to plan purchases or save pack hourglasses should wait for the full card pool before treating any early favorite as mandatory.
The new pack guarantee needs more detail
The Pokémon Company also announced a conditional rarity guarantee. Once certain unnamed conditions are met while opening a booster pack, the next pack opened from the same expansion will contain a four-diamond or higher card. PokéBeach confirms that no further details have been released yet.
That missing condition matters. A guarantee can help players feel that a dry run has an endpoint, but its practical value depends on how many packs trigger it and whether progress is clearly shown. Families managing in-app spending should wait for the in-game explanation on launch day. The current announcement does not provide enough information to calculate the cost or time needed to reach the guarantee.
Ruler of the Skies will also bring a long event schedule. Late-July missions will award Trainer cards such as Leaf, Sabrina, and Red. Summer missions run into early August, followed by an Emblem Event and Community Week in early to mid-August. The middle and end of August include a Mega Houndoom ex Drop Event, a Pachirisu and Beldum wonder-pick event, and the return of Deluxe Pack: ex boosters.
The card reveals will draw the first wave of attention, especially with Mega Rayquaza on the pack art. Deck sharing has a better chance of improving everyday play. It helps players teach, copy, discuss, and test decks with less friction. That is the feature to check first when Ruler of the Skies arrives.
