Gundam Card Game's First Year — 500 Million Cards and a World Championship

One year after launch, the Gundam Card Game is making a serious case for itself. 500 million cards shipped worldwide. 700,000+ event participants. And a competitive circuit that now includes a full World Championship structure. For a TCG entering a market stacked with Magic, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, and Lorcana, that's not a bad opening chapter.

Phantom Aria: April's Big Release

Booster Vol. 4, "Phantom Aria," launches worldwide on April 25, 2026 with store release events kicking off the same day. The set introduces Mobile Suit Victory Gundam and Turn A Gundam cards to the game for the first time, expanding the franchise roster beyond the usual UC and CE timeline favorites. Suletta Mercury also appears as a Green card — her first non-Red printing — which should shake up deckbuilding.

TCGPlayer has published a comprehensive preview, and Bandai has already issued official errata for some card descriptions, suggesting the set is being taken seriously from a competitive balance perspective.

The Roadmap Ahead

The 2026 roadmap, revealed in Bandai's "GUNDAM CARD GAME NEXT STRATEGY 2026" presentation, is ambitious:

- June 27: An SD Gundam G Generation Eternal collaboration booster arrives with multiplayer-focused cards — a first for the game's competitive design.- July 25 (1st Anniversary): Booster Vol. 5 "Freedom Ascension" features Strike Freedom Gundam and G Gundam's Shining Gundam. A 1st Anniversary Set includes 125 reprints, 8 booster packs, and EX cards — a collector's dream and a smart entry point for new players.- Competitive: World Championships 26-27 now includes store-level qualifiers, making competitive play accessible beyond regional events.

All 2026 product launches are worldwide-synchronized — a commitment Bandai has made to avoid the regional release disparities that have plagued other TCGs.

Can It Compete in Year Two?

The first year established the Gundam Card Game as a legitimate contender. Year two is about sustainability. The store-level qualifier system is a smart move — it mirrors what Pokémon and Magic have done to build grassroots competitive ecosystems. The anniversary set with 125 reprints signals Bandai understands that accessibility drives adoption.

The question isn't whether Gundam Card Game can compete with the TCG giants. It's whether it can carve out a permanent seat at the table. Based on the 2026 roadmap, Bandai is playing to win.
