Multiple employee posts indicate that 1047 Games has cut staff again, less than a month after its new shooter Empulse entered early access. The studio had not publicly explained the scope or purpose of the latest cuts when Game Developer and Insider Gaming published their reports.

That leaves two duties for anyone covering the story. The affected workers deserve to be treated as people, and the evidence needs firm boundaries. Employee accounts establish that layoffs occurred. They do not establish how many jobs were lost, why the decision was made, or what it means for Empulse and the wider Splitgate series.

What the employee posts confirm

Game Developer reported farewell messages from several 1047 Games workers. An associate art director described the departure as part of a third wave of studio layoffs. A community specialist also said they had been affected. A director of quality assurance wrote about members of the team leaving after Empulse and wished departing colleagues time to recover and find new work.

Insider Gaming independently identified other affected roles. Its report cited a former principal technical sound designer and an associate producer who said they had been let go. The two outlets therefore provide separate employee accounts across art, community, audio, production, and quality assurance.

Neither report supplied a company statement confirming a total. Both outlets said they contacted 1047 Games for comment. Until the studio responds, any precise headcount or department-level conclusion would go beyond the available evidence.

The Empulse timing makes the news more urgent

Empulse entered Steam early access on June 24. These employee disclosures appeared within the following month. Insider Gaming reported that the game peaked at just under 2,900 concurrent Steam players and then declined day by day. That figure gives useful launch context. It cannot tell readers what caused the layoffs.

The same caution applies to the studio's product plans. A reduction across several disciplines may affect development capacity, community support, testing, or production. None of the current reports confirms that a specific Empulse update has been canceled or delayed. Players should watch the studio's update cadence and official communication before treating those outcomes as settled.

Early access depends on trust. Players buy into an unfinished game with the expectation that a team will keep communicating, fixing problems, and building toward a stronger release. A layoff shortly after launch does not automatically break that trust. Silence makes the uncertainty harder to manage, especially when employees themselves are the public source of the news.

A useful statement from 1047 Games would address the size of the reduction, whether severance and transition support were provided, and whether published Empulse plans remain intact. Even a limited answer could help workers, current players, and prospective buyers understand what changed.

This fits a longer period of upheaval at 1047 Games

Game Developer placed the new reports alongside the studio's earlier restructuring. In June 2025, 1047 Games announced that it had parted with a small group of employees. Another reduction followed after the launch of Splitgate 2. Studio leadership later said the sequel had launched too early and that the team had taken on more than it could handle.

Rock Paper Shotgun, which traces its reporting on the latest departures back to Game Developer, noted that a previous round affected 45 workers. That is historical context, not a count for the July 2026 cuts.

The history matters because 1047 Games was once held up as a major independent growth story. The first Splitgate passed 13 million downloads during open beta, according to Game Developer's background reporting. The studio later raised more than $100 million at a reported $1.5 billion valuation. Those milestones make the repeated reductions especially sobering. Rapid growth and substantial funding never remove the need for sustainable scope, honest scheduling, and care for the people doing the work.

What Empulse players should watch next

Players do not need to guess at the cause to make a prudent decision. Current owners can follow official patch notes, roadmap changes, server support, and the speed of issue resolution. Prospective buyers can use the early-access label as intended and judge the game by its present state, not by promised features whose delivery is uncertain.

The human side should stay central. The reports name workers from several parts of game development, each now facing an abrupt job search in a difficult industry. Their public posts are evidence for this story, yet they are also appeals for stability and future employment.

For 1047 Games, the next credible step is clarity. For Empulse players, the sound response is patient attention. The available reporting confirms another layoff round. The scale, cause, and effect on the game remain open until the studio or future development activity supplies firmer answers.
