The historical tabletop RPG pairs Basic Roleplaying rules with three linked adventures, following the Bayeux Tapestry’s account where it differs from the historical record.

Chaosium has announced Tapestry: Age of Conquest, a historical tabletop roleplaying game scheduled to launch on December 4, 2026, at a special games night at The British Museum. General release is planned for the same day, giving players beyond the museum event access to a 76-page book built around three linked adventures.

Developed in association with The British Museum and the University of Edinburgh’s History and Games Lab, according to Chaosium, the game follows Harold Godwinson’s rise and fall. Its three scenarios culminate in the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

The Bayeux Tapestry is more than a visual theme here: it determines how the game presents disputed events. Writer Jason Durall says its depiction took precedence whenever it differed from the historical record. Players should therefore approach the adventures as an exploration of the tapestry’s account, rather than assume every detail reflects the historical record.

Chaosium says the book uses rules based on Basic Roleplaying and includes ready-to-play characters. The publisher describes it as designed for quick play with little or no preparation, though those claims are not an independently tested assessment of how easily a group can get started.

Alongside Durall’s writing, the announcement credits Ossi Hiekkala and Katrin Dirim for the artwork and Glynn Seal for cartography. Chaosium plans to sell the book through its website on December 4; further details for the museum games night were still forthcoming in the announcement.
