D&D Beyond announced third-party releases for Q3 2026, and one of them caught people off guard: "Vampire: The Masquerade - Bound by Blood," a new 5.5e book from Ghostfire Gaming in partnership with White Wolf.

The book introduces a Kindred class, described as a full vampire class powered by Blood Points, Disciplines, and what the release calls "the ever-clawing Beast inside." It also includes a Dark Ages adventure module.

This marks D&D's second major crossover with rival RPG franchises, following a Call of Cthulhu book released earlier.

What the book offers

Ghostfire Gaming has handled third-party D&D content before, but this partnership with White Wolf represents a more direct licensing arrangement. The Kindred class appears designed to bring Vampire: The Masquerade's core mechanics into D&D 5.5e without requiring players to learn a separate system.

Blood Points function as the resource pool for vampire abilities. Disciplines map to what D&D players would recognize as special class features or spells. The Beast mechanic adds a layer of roleplaying pressure that fits Vampire's horror themes.

The Dark Ages adventure module suggests the book covers more than just character creation. Players looking to run a Vampire-themed campaign in a D&D framework will have structured content to work with.

Why two TTRPG giants are collaborating

TTRPG publishers have become more willing to cross license over the last few years. The market has grown large enough that collaboration can expand both audiences rather than cannibalize sales.

For D&D players, this adds vampire character options without requiring a system switch. For Vampire fans, it offers a way to run their setting using D&D's more widely known rules.

The timing also matters. Q3 2026 releases give both companies time to promote the book at summer conventions and get it on shelves before the holiday buying season.

What this means for families and faith-conscious gamers

Vampire: The Masquerade deals with horror themes by design. The D&D crossover does not remove those elements. Parents and group leaders should review the material before bringing it to mixed age groups.

The book's mechanics lean into Vampire's core premise: players control characters who struggle with their predatory nature. That tension drives the game but may not fit every gaming context.

For groups comfortable with horror content, this offers a way to run Vampire-inspired stories using D&D 5.5e rules. For families seeking lighter TTRPG options, the Call of Cthulhu crossover or other third-party D&D books may provide better fits.

Release window

The book is scheduled for Q3 2026. D&D Beyond listed it alongside other third-party releases without giving a specific month. Pre-orders should appear through major retailers in the coming weeks.
