Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub is returning to Warhammer 40,000 with a new miniature tied to the upcoming Codex: Orks. Games Workshop has revealed the updated Bad Moons warboss, outlined several of his weapons and battlefield abilities, and confirmed that the character will also appear in Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

The reveal carries unusual weight for longtime Ork players. Wargamer reports that this is Nazdreg's first new miniature in almost 30 years. The character remained part of Warhammer lore during that absence, but players lacked a modern model built for the current tabletop line.

A second-edition character gets a current sculpt

Games Workshop says the new miniature updates Nazdreg's classic second-edition appearance while retaining visual links to the older design. His Bad Moons identity remains obvious through the heavy armor, wealth, and loud display expected from the richest Ork clan. This is a return built to be recognized, not a complete visual rewrite.

The official reveal names his Kustom Blasta X and Moonchewa among his weapons. It also presents abilities intended to make him relevant to the Ork forces around him. Wargamer examines the disclosed shooting, melee, movement, and leadership rules as practical tabletop tools. The full codex context is still missing, so any judgment about his final competitive value needs to wait.

That distinction matters with previewed rules. A datasheet can look powerful in isolation and play very differently once points, detachment rules, army construction, and common matchups are known. Nazdreg's return is confirmed. His place in tournament lists is not.

Why Nazdreg matters to Ork history

Bell of Lost Souls adds context that goes beyond the miniature announcement. Its account describes Nazdreg as an unusually intelligent and resourceful Bad Moons warboss. His established history includes the Space Hulk Scylla and conflicts with Imperial forces, giving him a long campaign identity instead of a newly invented name attached to a premium model.

That background helps explain why the return appeals to veteran players. Warhammer 40,000 has decades of characters, units, and campaign stories that can disappear from the active miniature range while remaining alive in memory and lore. Bringing one back can connect an older collection to the current game. It can also introduce newer players to a part of Ork history they may have known only through old books or secondhand stories.

For hobbyists, the sculpt offers a natural Bad Moons centerpiece. The clan's love of wealth, oversized weapons, and conspicuous gear gives painters room for bright yellow armor, worn metal, checks, glyphs, and trophies. The official images establish the model's broad look, but buyers still need sprue views and final product details before judging build options or conversion potential.

One character across tabletop and Total War

Games Workshop's confirmation that Nazdreg will appear in Total War: Warhammer 40,000 gives the reveal a second audience. A character returning to the tabletop at the same time he enters a major strategy game can reinforce recognition across both forms of Warhammer. Digital players get a named Bad Moons leader with established history. Tabletop players get a physical model connected to a wider release conversation.

The two versions should still be judged on their own terms. Total War can express leadership, army bonuses, campaign behavior, and battlefield spectacle on a scale the tabletop game handles through different abstractions. Shared identity does not require identical mechanics. The useful point is that Games Workshop is treating Nazdreg as an active character again across its current projects.

What Ork players still need to know

No accepted source in Ezra's record gives a final price or preorder date. The complete Codex: Orks context is also unavailable. Players considering the model should wait for those facts, especially if the decision depends on points efficiency, detachment fit, or a fixed hobby budget.

The reveal is still substantial without those missing details. Games Workshop has confirmed the miniature, codex connection, named wargear, previewed abilities, and Total War role. Wargamer establishes the scale of the model's long absence and evaluates the rules shown so far. Bell of Lost Souls explains why Nazdreg has enough history to make the return meaningful.

For Ork collectors, this is a genuine restoration of an old character to the current range. The enthusiasm makes sense. A sensible purchase judgment can wait until Games Workshop supplies the price, timing, and full rules environment.
