Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork RPG Moves to Retail

Terry Pratchett's Discworld is finally hitting the shelves of local game stores. Modiphius Entertainment announced that Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork, the official tabletop RPG set in Pratchett's beloved fantasy universe, is moving to retail distribution in Q2 2026. The move follows a hugely successful Kickstarter that raised over 2.4 million pounds.

What Happened

Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork first launched through Kickstarter, where it attracted strong backing from fans of Pratchett's novels. Now Modiphius is bringing the game to Friendly Local Game Stores with exclusive digest-sized core rulebooks and starter sets designed specifically for the retail channel. The retail release makes the game accessible to players who don't follow crowdfunding campaigns, which opens a much wider audience.

The RPG is part of a broader 2026 Discworld lineup from Modiphius. Q1 saw the release of Discworld: Readers Digested, a licensed reskin of Reiner Knizia's Blue Moon City board game. Q3 will bring Kill Sam Vimes, a card game, and Q4 has a second RPG Kickstarter planned that expands the setting into Lancre and Uberwald.

Why It Matters

Discworld occupies a rare space in fantasy literature. Pratchett wrote stories that were sharply funny on the surface but deeply humane underneath. His books explore morality, community, belief, and what it means to be good in a complicated world, themes that resonate with Christian readers in a way that most fantasy settings don't. The RPG gives players a chance to step into that world and explore those questions at the table.

For TTRPG groups centered around faith, Discworld offers something different from the standard dungeon crawl. The setting rewards clever thinking, moral choices, and character-driven storytelling over combat optimization. That's a natural fit for groups that want their game nights to mean something beyond rolling dice.

What We Know

The retail release includes digest-sized rulebooks and starter sets exclusive to game stores. Modiphius has not announced specific pricing for the retail editions yet. The core rulebook covers Ankh-Morpork and surrounding areas, with later releases expanding the geography.

Modiphius has a strong track record with licensed IPs. Their Star Trek, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Dune RPGs have all been well-received, and they tend to treat source material with respect. The Discworld license is in good hands.

The 2026 lineup shows Modiphius is committed to building out the Discworld tabletop ecosystem beyond just the RPG. The board game, card game, and second RPG expansion suggest this is a multi-year investment in the property.

What's Next

Watch for the retail launch in the coming weeks. If your local store stocks Modiphius products, they'll likely carry the Discworld line. The digest format is designed to be a lower-cost entry point, so it's a good way to try the system without committing to a full-size rulebook.

For groups already playing D&D or Pathfinder, Discworld offers a welcome change of pace. The mechanics are lighter, the tone is funnier, and the moral questions are baked into the world rather than bolted on top. If your table has been looking for something that feels less like a war game and more like a novel, this might be the one.
