Modiphius has added plastic production to its XCOM: The Miniatures Game plans after preorder demand outgrew its intended resin capacity, according to CEO Chris Birch. The change gives prospective buyers separate resin and plastic shipping windows ahead of the publisher’s planned February 2027 retail rollout.

In a Wargamer interview updated October 5, 2026, Birch said the response was larger than Modiphius had expected, making its planned resin rollout insufficient to meet demand. The publisher turned to Archon Studios to prepare its existing STL model files for plastic production.

Modiphius’s official game page lists November 2026 shipping for resin preorders and January 2027 shipping for HIPS plastic preorders. Retail distribution is scheduled to begin in February 2027. These are the publisher’s announced shipping and rollout plans, not confirmation of dispatch or guaranteed arrival dates.

For players deciding whether to buy in, the stated design priorities are also worth noting. Modiphius describes XCOM as a solo and cooperative tabletop miniatures wargame based on Ivan Sorensen’s Five Parsecs From Home. Birch said the adaptation simplifies technology progression and unlocks instead of reproducing the videogame’s full resource-management system.

Competitive players should temper their expectations. Birch said the points-based mode is meant to produce roughly matched pickup battles, rather than serve as a tournament system. That distinction matters for anyone considering the range primarily for competitive play rather than its solo and cooperative focus.

Modiphius also says the core rulebook covers the complete Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within-era rules, including rules for the entire planned miniature range. That establishes the publisher’s intended rules coverage, while the models themselves follow the separate preorder and retail schedule.
