Konami has announced Rhapsody in Scarlet, a new single-player action-adventure game set in a magick-filled version of 1920s New York. The official Konami announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam as platforms. It also says the release date and rating are still pending, which is important for families who might be drawn in by the game's stylish reveal.

The premise centers on Ellie Myers, a young magus and aspiring jazz singer who gets pulled into a hidden conflict among magick users and a mysterious mafia organization. PlayStation Blog adds combat details from the State of Play reveal: magic, beasts, close-range attacks, long-range attacks, and area-of-effect abilities. That gives the game a clear pitch. It is urban fantasy action with period style, supernatural combat, and a young lead caught between performance and danger.

Gematsu independently reports the announcement and confirms the PS5, Xbox Series, and PC platform spread. Game Informer frames the reveal as urban fantasy action in New York, which matches the official material. Those independent reports do not add a release date, and that absence should shape expectations. This is a reveal story, not a launch guide.

Rhapsody in Scarlet has an obvious visual hook. Jazz-age New York gives Konami room for clubs, city streets, organized crime, fashion, music, and occult spectacle. The official spelling of "magick" signals a more stylized supernatural vocabulary than simple elemental powers. For some players, that combination will be the draw. For parents, it is the first thing to flag.

Crosspad does not need to overstate the concern. We do not have an ESRB rating yet. We do not have full story content. We do not know how dark the mafia material gets, how the beasts are used, or how the game frames magic beyond combat fantasy. The careful move is to mark it as promising and wait for rating language, gameplay footage, and story details before recommending it broadly.

The combat description still tells us something. Close-range, long-range, and area attacks suggest a game built around encounter flow and spectacle. Beast-command mechanics could add personality if they create tactical choices instead of simple summon spam. The danger is that stylish action games can hide thin design under a flood of effects. Konami's reveal needs follow-up footage that shows how Ellie actually moves through fights, solves problems, and changes over time.

There is also a cultural angle. A jazz singer protagonist in 1920s New York can be more than set dressing if the game respects the period's music, neighborhoods, ambition, and pressure. It can also become a shallow aesthetic board if the setting only exists for hats, neon, and mob silhouettes. The State of Play framing gives the game a strong first impression. The next test is whether the world has texture once the trailer glow fades.

For players who care about what a game asks them to inhabit, Rhapsody in Scarlet should stay on the radar with a yellow marker. Stylish magic and supernatural mafia conflict can produce thrilling adventure. They can also drift into glamorizing occult power, criminal cool, or vengeance if the story lacks judgment. That does not make the game bad. It means the rating, story framing, and mission design will matter.

The strongest part of the announcement is that Konami appears to be showing an original project instead of only leaning on familiar names. That is good for the industry and good for players who want new worlds. The prudent part is waiting. Wishlist if the premise fits your taste, then watch the next trailer for three things: how violent the combat looks, how the magick is framed, and whether Ellie's story treats power as a temptation or simply as style.
