Mantic Games has opened The Siege of Samarik, a live global campaign for Kings of War players that runs from August 14 through Sunday, August 30. The hook is simple and useful: play games, submit results, and help decide whether Samarik stands or falls in the ongoing history of Pannithor.

That makes this more than a product announcement. It is a table prompt. Mantic says players can submit games of Kings of War, Kings of War: Champions, and Armada. Results push the campaign outcome toward either Samarik Stands or Samarik Falls, with the publisher saying those results will become part of the setting's ongoing history. Bell of Lost Souls had previewed the August 14 to August 30 window in July and pointed to a web portal for reporting games, which gives the current launch some useful outside context.

why this matters for wargames players

Global campaigns work when they turn normal local play into something with a deadline. The Siege of Samarik gives clubs, stores, and friend groups a reason to put matches on the calendar during the second half of August. That is valuable for a hobby where armies can sit half-painted and rulebooks can sit closed for months.

The campaign also broadens the daily Crosspad slate in a healthy way. Warhammer deserves coverage because it drives so much of the miniatures conversation. A Christian gaming site that covers tabletop seriously should also make room for other systems when they have live, source-backed hooks. Kings of War has its own community, its own fantasy setting, and its own pitch around rank-and-flank battles. Samarik is a good excuse to cover that lane without forcing a trend that is not there.

For players, the practical question is whether this event can fit the group you already have. A campaign that accepts Kings of War, Champions, and Armada creates several entry points. A full army game may be the main event for established players. Champions can give a smaller-format option. Armada lets naval collections matter in the same broad narrative push. That spread should help local organizers include more people than a single-format event would.

the table stewardship angle

The best part of a global campaign is shared momentum. The risky part is pressure. Players can feel as if they need to buy, paint, or schedule too much in too little time. The August 30 deadline is close enough to create energy and close enough to strain a busy household.

That is where some plain stewardship helps. If your group already has Kings of War armies ready, Samarik looks like a strong reason to play. If the campaign would require rushed purchases and late-night assembly just to participate, the better move may be to enjoy the lore and plan for the next event. The hobby is healthier when campaigns serve the table, instead of the table serving a countdown.

The fiction support also matters in the right way. Mantic published The Second Portal as narrative context for the campaign. Crosspad should treat that as atmosphere, not independent news evidence. The actual article hook comes from the live campaign page and the independently reported preview. The fiction can help players care about Samarik once they are already in.

what to do before August 30

Groups interested in The Siege of Samarik should pick a format first. Decide whether the local table is playing Kings of War, Kings of War: Champions, Armada, or a mix. Then check Mantic's campaign page for the submission portal and campaign guide before scheduling.

If a store or club can run two or three clean nights before the deadline, this looks like a good community builder. If your group can only squeeze in one game, that is still enough to participate without turning the campaign into a burden. The point is to play games and write a little setting history together.

source notes

Mantic Games confirms the live August 14 to August 30 campaign, eligible games, submission portal, and Samarik Stands or Samarik Falls outcome structure.

Bell of Lost Souls previewed the campaign window and reporting portal in July.

Mantic's Second Portal fiction supplies lore context only.
