Machinarium 2 Announced, Bringing Josef and Berta Back After 17 Years
Amanita Design’s puzzle-adventure sequel will let players switch between both robots, with Windows and macOS versions announced.
Amanita Design announced Machinarium 2 on October 8, 2026, unveiling its first trailer at the Triple-i Initiative showcase. The sequel returns to the studio’s 2009 robot puzzle adventure and continues Josef and Berta’s story, this time giving players control of both characters.
According to Amanita, players will be able to switch between Josef and Berta at any time, combining their abilities to solve puzzles that neither robot could handle alone. That partnership is central to the announced puzzle design, rather than simply a way to choose which character to guide.
The story picks up where the original left off. After a crash landing, Josef and Berta discover a hidden valley with two robot communities: one in the cliffside Elektrona monastery and another in the city of Oilton below. Both communities are slowly running out of power.
Amanita says the sequel will support direct movement with a gamepad, allowing players to steer the robots without a cursor. Mouse controls will also remain fully supported for those who prefer that approach to adventure games.
The studio also promises hand-drawn environments inspired by old master drawings and Renaissance landscape paintings. Original Machinarium composer Tomáš Dvořák, known as Floex, is returning to compose the soundtrack.
Machinarium 2 is available to wishlist on Steam for Windows and macOS. As of October 10, 2026, Amanita has not announced a release date or additional platforms, so the 17-year gap marks the sequel’s reveal, not its launch.
