WeirdCo has introduced Holophone, a narrative experience for Cyberpunk TCG organized play that aims to give local-store matches an ongoing story. Through a planned web and mobile interface, players will interact with characters and take on jobs, with tournament results feeding into the experience.

An October 9 follow-up paired a deep-dive video featuring CD PROJEKT RED’s Pawel Burza and Patrick Mills with a Q&A featuring WeirdCo Narrative Lead Emanuel Garcia. Garcia described the goal as player-driven journeys that develop over months of store play rather than ending with each match.

Players will initially be able to choose from three factions: Arasaka, Aldecaldos and Maelstrom. WeirdCo says each will have characters and storylines set after Cyberpunk 2077. The interface will use text messaging to deliver character interactions, jobs and narrative decisions.

Garcia distinguished Main Jobs, which follow faction stories, from Side Jobs, which offer tasks outside the main storyline. He said WeirdCo’s partnership with Melee will connect tournament results to Holophone’s job and messaging systems, tying the narrative layer to organized competition.

Winning will not be the only route to progress. According to Garcia, participation in Weekly Brawls will let players advance through character, faction and story material and earn rewards even when they lose. That makes participation itself part of the planned story progression, rather than reserving it for successful tournament runs.

The initial offering will be limited. Garcia said Holophone was in alpha, with an iterative rollout and one Main Job planned as an introductory demo for pre-release play and November. The official blog places the alpha demo alongside Welcome to Night City pre-release events, but explicitly says that timing is subject to change.
